Floyd Mayweather, JR: Pricing Himself out of Manny Pacquiao Showdown

By Geno McGahee

100 Million Dollars… sound familiar? It was the amount that Roy Jones, JR., wanted to step into the ring with Mike Tyson. In other words, he wanted absolutely no part of Iron Mike. Now we have a repeat with Floyd Mayweather, JR., reportedly asking for the same amount to face a fighter that has been compared to Tyson, Manny Pacquiao.

Pacquiao has Shane Mosley on the horizon in May, and he is expected to come through that fight with another rather easy victory and the hope from the entire boxing world was that the two best in the game, Floyd and Manny would agree to fight, but now it looks like an impossibility because Mayweather, JR., obviously does not want it. Even if they came up with the 100 million, I’m sure that there would be another issue that would stop the fight from happening.

After finding this out, I think that it is fair to say that Pacquiao will most likely retire after Mosley. With no other “super fight” out there for him, he will probably hang up the gloves and then we will see Floyd return and take on carefully picked opponents of name value but without any real chance to upset him, and he will retire undefeated, still claiming that he is the best pound for pound, but it seems to be a title that he refuses to defend.
