The former business manager of Fernando Vargas has been arrested on suspicion of stealing the former world champion’s fortune. According to the Ventura County Star, Joseph Louis Pecora was arrested Monday on charges of grand theft by embezzlement and forgery after a long investigation. Vargas’ attorney Greg Ramirez told the Star that Pecora allegedly pocketed about $400,000 and lost millions by mismanaging Vargas’ financial affairs. Ramirez also said the Vargas family had to move out of their home as a result and Vargas might have to start training to get back in the ring.

Team RSR Fight Picks: Allan Green vs. Andre Ward

This Saturday, June 19th, the Super Six tournament resumes with an intriguing second round match up between Andre Ward and Allan Green. Ward, who won his first round bout via decision over early favorite Mikkel Kessler, gets to enjoy a hometown advantage for the second straight time fighting out of Oakland, California. His opponent, Green, was not an original participant in Showtime’s super middleweight round robin. He replaced Jermain Taylor after Taylor was brutally stopped by Arthur Abraham and was unable to continue with his tournament obligations.

The Boxing Weekend: Showtime Super Six Continues

-Friday-
ESPN2 Friday Night Fights
Spokane, Washington
This Friday, on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights, junior middleweight Sherzod Husanov, 14-0-1, 7 KO’s, takes on Jhon Berrio, 15-6, 11 KO’s, in a ten round bout. Husanov is the WBC International Light Middleweight Champion, claiming victory over Timur Nergadze, a fighter he drew with in their first encounter. Other than Nergadze, Husanov has not faced anyone of note. The trend continues Friday night as he takes on the upset-minded, Berrio. In his last ten fights, he is 4 wins, 6 losses, and doesn’t appear to present much of a challenge. This is a rather weak main event for Friday’s show.
Movie Review: Shutter Island

It was an impulse buy…that’s what it was. I was walking around Target and picked up several items, but there was nothing fun for me. I bought my son some toys and some household cleaning stuff, but zippo for me. I wanted to buy something. They had this display and there was SHUTTER ISLAND. I remember seeing the trailer for it and it looked sharp and they had it for $16.99, so I said “what the heck?” I was going to buy it on Blu Ray…the new big deal, but they wanted $26.99 for it. Since it was merely an impulse buy, I would not risk throwing away 27 bucks…just 17 if the movie stunk.

“The long anticipated fight between Manny Pacquiao, 51-3-2, 38 KO’s and Floyd Mayweather, JR., 41-0, 25 KO’s is a done deal with only signatures needed on the printed contract” said a very reliable inside source close to Team Mayweather who has just contacted RSR. This inside source went on to say, “Floyd is very happy that both sides could work out issues that he always felt could be talked out.” Floyd is anticipating on making well over 50 million dollars with Manny making almost the same. Tentative dates being kicked around for an HBO PPV is the middle to end of November 2010 and if this does happen there is no doubt that this fight will be the biggest grossing in history.

Remember When: Sean O'Grady Vs Hilmer Kenty

The date was April 12, 1981. On a happy note, my father, the sole person who planted the seed of boxing in my mind, turned 53, and on the same day, but not on such a bright note, legendary Heavyweight Champion of the World, Joe “The Brown Bomber” Louis passed away, at the age of 66.

Timothy Bradley Speaks Out About his Match with Carlos Abregu

Undefeated WBO junior welterweight champion Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley and undefeated welterweight contender Luis Carlos “El Potro” Abregu hosted an international media conference call on Monday to discuss their July 17 bout at the Agua Caliente Casino • Resort • Spa in Rancho Mirage, California. Here is what was said…
Gary Shaw: The HBO-televised portion of the July 17 card in The Show at Agua Caliente Casino Resort will open with a 12-round junior middleweight fight between Alfredo Angulo and Joachim Alcine. Angulo is one of boxing’s most exciting fighters and Alcine, a former world champion, presents the single toughest fight of Angulo’s career. Everybody is calling this a pick ‘em fight. So it’ll be a very, very interesting fight to see if Alfredo can hunt down another foe and advance to the front of the line of the 154-pounders.
Timur Ibragimov Makes it Win Number Six Over Oliver McCall

Life Beyond Floyd Mayweather & Manny Pacquiao: Boxing’s Underrated

Prize-fighting is an economically idiotic idea for the fighters themselves. While HBO, Showtime, and Don King get rich, the guys that serve as the product itself wind up with pathetically little to show for their efforts. Hell, Izzy Vazquez and Rafael Marquez split barely more than a million bucks in the third fight of what was one of the greatest trilogies of all time.

Brian's Boxing Mailbag (One Fight To Rule Them All, Klitschko Bros. vs. Legends, and of Course Manny Pacquiao)

Email Bag Hosted by Brian Wilbur
Hello readers, welcome again to my mailbag. Boxing has become invisible lately in the sporting landscape, overshadowed by the soccer World Cup going on in South Africa, the NBA Finals between the Lakers and Celtics, and by MMA pay per view events (I called Chuck Liddell being completely washed up by the way). Those events, especially the World Cup, are worldwide spectacles that captivate millions of people. Boxing seems insignificant in comparison, especially with no blockbuster fights in the upcoming schedule.

Teddy Atlas’ Next Heavyweight Champion: Alexander Povetkin

I have often referred to Teddy Atlas as the most honest guy in boxing, and he is. No matter what, he will speak his mind, most likely ruffling some feathers at ESPN when he announces that they owe the audience a better match upon occasion. He calls things the way that he sees them, being the first to talk about hot prospect Joe Mesi and his brain injury and risks he would take stepping back into the ring. He also spoke of inside information about an email from Team Pacquiao, asking what the penalty would be for a positive test. He pulls no punches.
Former WBO Middleweight Champion, Doug "The Cobra" Dewitt Sits Ringside with RSR

Interview by “Bad” Brad Berkwitt (Reposted for Archive Purposes)
“I was blessed to have a boxing career and thanks for the opportunity to discuss it after all these years”. – Doug Dewitt
If there was ever a true New York accent, former WBO Middleweight Champion Doug “The Cobra” Dewitt had it while we discussed his stellar boxing career. Throughout our conversation, Dewitt, sharp as a tack, reeled off information about his career with relative ease. The highlight of which, was clearly his winning the first ever WBO Middleweight Championship on April 18, 1989 against Marvelous Marvin Hagler’s half-brother, Robbie Sims, via a 12 round decision.
Dewitt, still living in New York and retired now for almost 18 years, is still involved with boxing through a personal training business and his passion is very strong for it to continue to succeed.
