There is a dangerous trend going on in the world of boxing at this moment. Manny Pacquiao, the biggest star ever to come out of the Philippines has become one of the biggest attractions in boxing. His destructions of notable foes have made him a household name and his fan base is large and growing. Unfortunately, all is not good. Some of the hateful ramblings from the obsessed Pacquiao fans and the “fanboy/groupie” journalists have got to make Team Pacquiao rethink security as he heads into his biggest fight of his career.

WWE Chronicles the Life of Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat

For 35 years, he was one of the most revered and popular professional wrestlers in the business; one of only a handful of wrestlers that never worked as a “heel” or bad guy during his career.
Now, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has released a video collection devoted to one of the greats from the wrestling boom of the 70’s and 80’s – Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat — entitled “Ricky Steamboat: The Life Story of The Dragon.”
RSR Looks Back at “Lone Star Cobra” Donald Curry

Born September 7, 1961, in Forth Worth, Texas, better known as “cow town,” for some and Fort “Party” Worth for others; an elite boxer entered the scene in the early 80’s. This boxer had an amateur career of over 400 wins and 4 losses. His nickname was “Lone Star Cobra,” Donald Curry was the Undisputed World Welterweight Champion and the WBC Super Welterweight Champion.
Super Middleweight Mayhem: Andre Ward & the Super Six Tournament

Andre “S.O.G.” Ward, 22-0, 13 KO’s came out swinging against Allan Green, 29-2, 20 KO’s, in his last appearance in the Super Six Boxing Classic tournament.
And as much as I love the drama unfolding, I can definitely offer that Ward is in it to win it. It sounds just as bad to say: “Don’t hate the player, hate the game.” Sad attempt at hip jargon if you can even call it that but there is no doubt in my mind that Ward has elevated his status and successfully defended his WBA Super Middleweight title in convincing fashion.

StrikeForce Upset: Fabricio Werdum Defeats Fedor Emelianenko

The inevitable end to Fedor Emelianenko’s unbeaten run came at the hands of Fabricio Werdum in a fight that Fedor was expected to win with relative ease. A single moment of over aggressiveness though lead to a fight ending triangle choke/arm bar, which the uncrowned champion was forced to tap to after a brief few seconds of struggle. From the opening bell Fedor was obviously looking for the knockout, and in the very first exchange he dropped the Brazilian with a series of punches. Believing Werdum to be more seriously hurt than he was, Fedor jumped into his guard and attempted to end the fight.
Geno’s Boxing Corner: Mel Gibson, Brock Lesnar & the Manny Pacquiao – Floyd Mayweather JR Truth

I haven’t written one of these in quite a while, but I felt it was due, and although it’s called “Geno’s Boxing Corner,” I cannot stick exclusively to the sport we all love. Mel Gibson must be addressed.
I am a big fan of Gibson’s work. His dramatic overacting in RANSOM still amazes me and his sexual harassment of police officers may be wrong, but I found the term “Sugar T**s” amusing.

The WWE RAW Report: John Cena, Nexus, and Vince McMahon’s beating Revisited

(Managing Editor’s Note: Jesse Castleman is our newest Feature Writer here at RSR and will be covering the world of professional wrestling. I, along with the rest of the team welcome him aboard.)
Welcome to RSR’s first weekly Raw Report. I’m Jesse Castleman, and I’ll be providing you an in-depth rundown of World Wrestling Entertainment’s flagship television show each week. Let’s begin. The show opens with the Nexus 7 stable members standing in a line inside the ring. Wade Barrett steps forward with a microphone and explains that the anonymous, mystery general manager ordered Nexus to assemble to face their consequences. Barrett explained that attacking Vince McMahon is just part of a bigger plan, whose details he cannot yet reveal. Next, Skip Sheffield took the mic and commented on the Ricky Steamboat attack from last week was simply for fun, as Nexus found a loophole in the GM’s rules.
Predicting Showtime’s Super Six Classic: And the Winner is…

The latest battle in the Super Six, presented by Showtime, was a dominant performance by WBA Super Middleweight Champion, Andre Ward, easily outpointing the passive Allan Green over twelve rounds. Ward has moved up from a mid level pick to a big favorite after victories over both Green and Mikkel Kessler in his first appearance in the tournament. Ward became the points leader with 4 points and earned his right into the semi-finals, but this is still anyone’s tournament.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather, JR is a Done Deal Stirs Up the Boxing World

Last month RSR broke a news story that was given to us by our inside source over at Team Mayweather that the fight was a “Done Deal” with signatures only needed on the contract. Our story was picked up by many news sources and was the talk of message boards around the world. It was great to see the boxing world abuzz because it’s badly needed. Well, with all the exposure coming from that article, we actually were contacted this past weekend by an entirely different source from Team Mayweather whose credentials from all the research RSR did checked out.
Brian’s Boxing and MMA Mailbag (Brock Lesnar Survives Shane Carwin, Manny Pacquiao vs. Everyone)

Happy Independence Day readers! On the 4th of July we not only celebrate the independence of the United States of America, but we celebrate the anniversary of the release of “Independence Day” starring Will Smith and Bill Pullman. What a great movie.
I hope you all enjoyed your extended weekend and hopefully you were able to catch the UFC fight between Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin. Say what you will about Lesnar being overrated or hating him because he is a jerk, but the guy has a ton of heart. Shane Carwin had Lesnar in big trouble that opening round after dropping him with an uppercut. Carwin was in a controlling position on top of Brock, hammering him with fists and elbows. Not many would have been able to take those shots from a huge hitter like Carwin. You have to give respect to Brock Lesnar for having the courage, desire, and never-say-die mentality needed to survive that first round. Lesnar survived, got Carwin on the ground in the second round and the rest is history.

Brock Lesnar Retains UFC Heavyweight Title

Brock Lesnar retained his UFC heavyweight title earlier tonight, submitting Shane Carwin in the second round after coming back from the very brink of defeat in the first. Fighting for the first time in over a year due to a nasty bout of diverticulosis, Lesnar was tentative from the opening bell, and as a result was quickly on the receiving end of a salvo of heavy blows from Carwin. The champion went down and was clearly in big trouble, and fighting from his back for more or less the first time in his career Lesnar looked helpless. For the rest of the first Carwin rained down blow after blow to a struggling Lesnar and more than once referee Josh Rosethal took a close look with a view to stopping the fight.
MMA News: TUF Winner Crowned

Court McGee became the latest ultimate fighter winner with a win over Kris McCray in the series finale, and in doing so got not only a glass trophy but the much talked about ‘six figure contract’ that all of the show’s winners get.
Back when the show started in 2003, a six figure contract was a fairly lucrative thing for a fighter starting out in the UFC, and not that many professional fighters were making that much money or being given lengthy contracts unless they were a proven draw. The original contract that contestants could win worked out to be a six fight, three year contract which worked out to be fairly low money if they kept winning.
Targeting a Title Shot: Featherweight Contender Matt Remillard Sharp Shoots RSR

“If I can deal with Manny Pacquiao I can deal with anyone in the featherweight division.” – Matt Remillard
The story of Matt Remillard, 22-0, 13 KO’s, is a familiar one in boxing. Remillard first came in contact with the sport of boxing through the indiscretions of a misspent youth. Run-ins with the law resulted in community service. As it happened, that community service would take place at the PAL in Manchester, Connecticut.
MMA Round Up: Brock Lesnar Defends UFC Heavyweight Title

Obviously the biggest news in the MMA world this week was Fedor Emelianenko’s shocking loss to Fabricio Werdum via triangle arm bar. Just as importantly though, the UFC have a high profile heavyweight match up of their own this weekend, as champion Brock Lesnar defends his belt against unbeaten heavy hitter Shane Carwin. The upshot being that the winner of that fight will almost certainly become the top ranked heavyweight in the sport.
