RSR Chats with Former Two-Time World Featherweight Champion Kevin “The Flushing Flash” Kelley

Interview by Mike “Rubber Warrior” Plunkett
“When push comes to shove, I’m doing the shoving”– Kevin Kelley
It has almost been two decades since I began to fervently follow the career of Kevin Kelley. His breakout high volume war of attrition with former IBF Featherweight Champion Troy Dorsey not only served notice to fans around the world that the United States had a firm stake in the featherweight ranks, but also that in “The Flushing Flash” we had a fighter and future World Champion that could do it all.
MMA News: The Dream 15 & Impact FC Report

In the absence of a UFC card this week, the biggest MMA even of the weekend was undoubtedly Dream 15, which saw the returns of both Gegard Mousasi and Shinya Aoki, as well as featuring the always entertaining Melvin Manhoef.

Movie Review: The Crazies

I like George Romero but I wasn’t a fan of his 1973 flick “THE CRAZIES” from what I can remember. I saw it very long ago and I thought it was mediocre then and I have to be honest and I will upset the zombie fans, but I didn’t really think anything was spectacular outside of the original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. The follow ups that get so much attention I can take or leave.
Glen Johnson Vs Tavoris Cloud: The Road Warrior’s Last Shot

As a boxing reporter, I’d have to say that watching a seasoned, veteran boxer in the last years of a boxing career is always heartbreaking. But I do love the fight of the elder boxers.
For veteran boxers, I always root for them because they still have a lot of fight savvy and ring intelligence to possibly get in the one punch that could knock out the younger opponent. It may not be as simple and quick as a knockout and usually 12 round unanimous decisions are difficult to watch especially if it’s the younger fighter that emerges with the win.
Why Isn’t Tony Garea in the WWE Hall of Fame?

Maybe it’s because tag team wrestling isn’t as popular or as important in the WWE as it once was, or maybe it’s because the person featured in this article doesn’t want it to happen. However, the WWE is performing a grave injustice by not honoring one of its most loyal workers and a man who revolutionized tag-team wrestling in its federation.
Floyd Mayweather, JR – Manny Pacquiao Pound for Pound Bombshell

Bob Arum has noted that the super fight between the two pound for pound best fighters in the world may not happen due to a missed deadline. Floyd Mayweather, JR., 41-0, 25 KO’s, has been on the radar of Filipino superstar, Manny “PacMan” Pacquiao, 51-3-2, 38 KO’s, for quite some time, but several factors have prevented the fight from happening.
Wladimir Klitschko Wants Alexander Povetkin

Here is more information about today’s Wladimir Klitschko-Alexander Povetkin presser at Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt in which Povetkin was a no-show.
Team Klitschko was informed at midnight that Povetkin could not take the flight from New York due to a sinus inflammation. “I am very disappointed that Povetkin did not show up today,” said Wladimir. “For two weeks, we have tried to force him to come. He could have shown that he is ready to fight me. It’s the first time in my entire career that my opponent did not come to the press conference.”

WBA champion Amir Khan and WBC champion Devon Alexander have both called out WBO jr welterweight champion Timothy Bradley following Bradley’s win over Luis Carlos Abregu on Saturday night. Brian’s Boxing Mailbag (Boxing Suffers the Loss of Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather, JR)

Hi readers and boxing fans. I’m very happy that you have chosen this website and my column to read and discuss the hot topics in the fighting world. I always welcome you to email me and chime in.
In last week’s mailbag I foreshadowed the passing of the deadline for the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, JR., which was half a correct prediction and half a rant of despair and hopelessness. Now that the ultimate super fight will not happen in the foreseeable future, we are left to sift through the ashes of what could have been. Bob Arum didn’t rule out the fight completely, saying “there’s always next year”. Reading the mail I have received so far, my readers are mostly pessimistic. Those who threatened to walk away from boxing if the fight did not happen are not at ease or satisfied with a “maybe next year”.

Andre Dirrell Vs Andre Ward: A Super Six Showdown

The Showtime Super Six World Boxing Classic has exceeded its expectations by a broad margin. During the early stages of this event, there were many boxing fans that were very skeptical about this whole idea, being that it was the first tournament of its kind displayed on television. I must admit, I for one was part of that group.
MMA Round Up: Mariusz Pudzianowski Vs Kimbo Slice & Brock Lesnar

It has been a fairly quiet week in terms of major events in the MMA world but that hasn’t stopped the news from flowing in as usual. This week M-1 have been outlining new demands they would make for the UFC signing Fedor, Steve Cantwell returns, Moosin II is in the works and Mark Hunt is heading for the UFC.
The Bob Arum Bluff: Manny Pacquiao – Floyd Mayweather JR is Coming Soon

The deadline was missed for Floyd Mayweather, JR., to acquire exclusive negotiations with Manny Pacquiao, and now Promoter Bob Arum has announced plans to negotiate for a rematch with Miguel Cotto or a showdown with boxing bad boy, “Hands of Plaster” Antonio Margarito. Floyd missed the deadline and it doesn’t matter. He doesn’t have to be controlled by a deadline because there is no other fight in boxing right now.
RSR Boxing Results: Zab Judah Returns with KO

ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights
Zab “Super” Judah, 39-6, 27 KO’s, came back to the junior welterweight division with a 3rd round destruction of Jose Armando Santa Cruz, 28-5, 17 KO’s. Judah looked sharper than he has in a while and used his speed and mobility to confuse and outland Santa Cruz in the opening two rounds. In the third round, Santa Cruz got more aggressive and paid for it when a crushing left uppercut landed on his chin and sent him the floor. He stood up with unsteady legs and Judah pounced, landing with a barrage of punches which convinced the referee to end the fight. Judah’s move down opens up a lot of big fights for him and I would make him a live underdog against Amir Khan or any other light welterweight. He may have turned back the clock with the move down and new attitude.
Tomasz Adamek: The Michael Grant Risk

Former Light Heavyweight and Cruiserweight Champion, Tomasz Adamek, 41-1, 27 KO’s, proved that he belonged in the heavyweight class with a decision win over top rated contender, Chris Arreola. Adamek mixes boxing skills with a decent punch and a general feel for the game. He is a natural fighter, but some still question him as a heavyweight.
Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire: The Experiment

Remember these lines from Rocky I?
Apollo’s Trainer: “I don’t want you messin’ with southpaws”
Apollo: “Southpaw nothin’, I’ll drop ‘em in 3”
This past Saturday, Nonito “Filipino Flash” Donaire, 24-1, 16 KO’s, decided to conduct a bold experiment and fight as a southpaw against promising Mexican fighter (and southpaw) Hernan Marquez, 27-2, 20 KO’s.
RSR Brings that 70’s Show with Former WBC Welterweight Champion Carlos Palomino Part II

Exclusive Interview by “Bad” Brad Berkwitt
Yesterday, in Part I of RSR’s exclusive interview, former WBC Welterweight Champion Carlos Palomino talked about what he is doing today, his rise up the ranks of the welterweight division, his title winning effort against then champion, John H. Stracey of England, his seven subsequent successful title defenses and lastly, his very close fight with Wilfred Benitez, which saw him lose his title via a split decision.
Vitali Klitschko Vs Shannon Briggs: A New York City Showdown?

HBO has made it clear that they are not going to broadcast the one-sided, tape-delayed beatings that the Klitschko brothers have been giving out overseas. The American audience has not been receptive and the Kevin Johnsons, Tony Thompsons, and Eddie Chambers of the world haven’t been capturing their imaginations, but “Dr. Ironfist” has plans to change the mind of the network and hopefully turn the heads of those in the states when he takes on former WBO Champion, Shannon Briggs.
